Why do some people say that they didn't know that they were pregnant until they gave birth

 Why do some people say that they didn't know that they were pregnant until they gave birth? Don't they wonder why they don't get periods? Or is it normal to miss periods for more than 5 months? Or do they think they have reached menopause?
